EDITORIAL CHARTER
Version 1.0 — June 2026
Published by Newsco Media | newsco.in
1. Mission Statement
Newsco exists to deliver verified, actionable business intelligence to India’s corporate decision-makers, sector professionals, founders, and informed citizens. We report on the forces shaping the Indian economy — with rigour, independence, and a genuine respect for the reader’s time.
We believe that well-sourced, clearly written business journalism is a public good. India’s economy is underserved by journalism that is simultaneously credible to global standards and intimate with domestic market dynamics. Newsco is built to close that gap.
Our tagline — “Verified Intelligence for Indian Business” — is a commitment, not a slogan. Every story we publish must earn that description.
2. Who We Write For
Newsco serves an 80:20 B2B2C audience:
Primary Audience (80%) — Corporate India
– CXOs, founders, and senior business leaders across sectors
– Investors, fund managers, and analysts tracking Indian markets
– Sector professionals in NBFC & Finance, Healthcare, Real Estate, Retail & D2C, Startups, Auto & EV, Wellness, and Hospitality & Travel
– Policy professionals, regulatory staff, and industry bodies
Secondary Audience (20%) — Informed General Readers
– Business graduates and students building sector knowledge
– Global readers tracking India’s economic story
– High-net-worth individuals with active investment interest in Indian businesses
We write for the reader who is busy, intelligent, and has choices. We do not write for the reader who needs every term explained. We do not patronise, and we do not pad.
3. Coverage Mandate
Newsco covers eight primary segments. Technology is a cross-cutting theme across all segments, not a standalone section.
NBFC & Finance
Credit markets, lending innovation, regulatory developments (RBI, SEBI, IRDAI), NBFCs, fintechs, banking strategy, capital markets, and personal finance policy.
Healthcare
Hospital chains, pharma, diagnostics, medical devices, digital health, health insurance, and regulatory affairs with business impact.
Real Estate
Residential and commercial property markets, REITs, PropTech, infrastructure, smart cities, and regulatory changes (RERA, land acquisition).
Retail & D2C
Consumer brands, retail formats (kiranas, modern trade, quick commerce), e-commerce, supply chain, FMCG, and changing consumer behaviour.
Startups
Venture funding, founder stories, scaling challenges, ecosystem policy, ESOP culture, and startup shutdowns reported with equal rigour to funding announcements.
Auto & EV
Passenger and commercial vehicles, EV transition, charging infrastructure, battery supply chains, and OEM strategy.
Wellness
The growing intersection of health, lifestyle, and business — fitness brands, mental health services, nutraceuticals, and the economics of preventive care.
Hospitality & Travel
Hotels, airlines, travel tech, MICE industry, tourism policy, and the hospitality workforce economy.
Story Eligibility
A story qualifies for publication when it meets at least two of the following:
– It affects a significant number of businesses, employees, investors, or consumers
– It represents a meaningful shift in a sector’s competitive dynamics
– It involves decisions by a company, regulator, or government body with verifiable impact
– It provides exclusive analysis or data not available elsewhere
– It features a named, credible source with direct knowledge of the subject
4. Editorial Independence
Newsco’s editorial decisions are made solely by its editors. The following entities have no influence over what we publish or how we cover it:
– Advertisers and commercial partners
– PR firms and communications agencies, including JBRO PR
– Investors, lenders, or any financial backer of Newsco Media
– Government bodies, regulators, or political interests
Advertising is welcome. Influence is not. These are separate relationships and will always remain so.
JBRO PR is the founding entity behind Newsco Media. Any company that is a JBRO PR client must be clearly disclosed when covered editorially. Editorial staff must not receive direction from JBRO PR on any story.
5. Accuracy & Verification Standards
Source Requirements
– Every factual claim must be verifiable from at least one named, credible primary source
– Claims of significance (market size, growth rates, financials) require two independent sources
– Anonymous sources may be used only with editorial sign-off and only when in the clear public interest
– Anonymous sources must be described so readers can assess their credibility
Press Releases
– Press releases are not news. They are starting points for reporting
– A press release may only be published as a distinct ‘Press Release’ story type, clearly labelled
– Press release content republished without additional reporting must not appear in the editorial news flow
AI-Assisted Content
– AI tools may be used for research assistance, summarisation, and first drafts
– All AI-assisted content must be reviewed, verified, and edited by a human journalist before publication
– Newsco does not publish AI-generated content without human editorial accountability
When in doubt, leave it out. A delayed accurate story is always preferable to an immediate inaccurate one.
6. Corrections Policy
Errors will happen. How we handle them defines our credibility.
– Factual errors are corrected promptly, on the same day where possible
– A correction notice is appended to the original article stating what was wrong and what is correct
– Corrections are not silent. We do not update text without disclosure
– Significant corrections are flagged via our social channels
– Readers may submit corrections to editorial@newsco.in. All submissions reviewed within 24 hours
We do not delete published stories except in cases of serious legal risk or fabricated information. A notice explaining any removal is published in its place.
7. Conflicts of Interest
Journalists and contributors must disclose to the Editor any personal, financial, or professional interest in a company or individual they are covering. This includes:
– Share ownership or financial instruments in companies covered
– Prior employment at the company being covered, within 3 years
– Family or close personal relationships with company principals
– Freelance or consulting arrangements with companies in covered sectors
Staff may not accept gifts, hospitality, or press trips above a nominal value (currently ₹2,000) without prior editorial approval. All approved exceptions are logged.
8. Sponsored & Native Content
– All sponsored content is labelled “Paid Partnership” or “Brand Story” prominently and unambiguously
– Sponsored content does not appear in editorial news feeds without a clear label
– The editorial team may decline any sponsored brief that conflicts with this charter
– Sponsors have no approval rights over editorial content, headlines, or placement of editorial stories
– The same fact-checking standards applied to editorial content apply to sponsored content on our platform
Press release distribution is a commercial service. Press releases are clearly distinguished from editorial content.
9. Privacy & Data Standards
– We do not publish personal information about private individuals without explicit consent
– Public figures retain privacy rights in their personal lives, not their professional conduct
– Source identities are protected. We do not reveal confidential sources under any pressure
– Reader data collected via subscriptions is used only for editorial purposes and never sold to third parties
10. Social Media Standards
– The same accuracy standards that apply to published articles apply to social posts
– Staff should not express partisan political opinions in their capacity as Masthead journalists
– Breaking news posted to social channels must be verified to publication standard
– Staff must not engage in hostile or demeaning exchanges with readers, sources, or competitors
– Personal accounts that routinely discuss journalism or Newsco are considered semi-professional and subject to this charter
11. Language & Tone
Newsco writes in plain, precise English. Our readers are sophisticated and do not need jargon or hyperbole.
– Lead with the news, not the context
– Numbers need context — a ₹500 crore fund is meaningless without a comparison
– Avoid: ‘robust’, ‘game-changer’, ‘disruptive’, ‘paradigm shift’, ‘ecosystem’ used loosely
– Headlines must be accurate and informative, not clickbait
– We do not editorialize in news stories. Opinion is labelled as opinion
We write for a global audience that understands Indian business. We do not over-explain India to outsiders, nor assume readers know every acronym.
12. Accountability & Contact
Editorial Contact
– Editorial matters: editorial@newsco.in
– Corrections and complaints: editorial@newsco.in (subject: “Correction” or “Complaint”)
– Advertising: ads@newsco.in
– Press releases: editorial@newsco.in
Complaint Process
We aim to acknowledge complaints within 24 hours and resolve them within 5 working days. We publish a quarterly summary of significant complaints received and actions taken.
